Notary visits for nursing homes and assisted living

Seniors shouldn't have to travel to sign. I come to the room or the family lounge, slow down, and make sure the signer understands every page.

Hospital, nursing home or funeral home: travel and service from $125, plus $5 per notarized signature.

Common documents

  • Powers of attorney for property and health care
  • Wills, codicils and trust documents
  • Real estate deeds and sale paperwork
  • Medicaid and benefits applications that require a notary
  • Vehicle title transfers

Making the visit go smoothly

  • Pick a time when the signer is usually most alert. Mornings are often best.
  • Bring or locate the signer's photo ID. Facilities sometimes keep it in the business office.
  • Let the front desk know a notary is coming. Some facilities ask visitors to sign in.
  • If an attorney prepared the documents, have their contact handy in case a question comes up.

What a notary can and can't do

I verify identity, make sure the signer is signing willingly, and complete the notarial certificate. I can't give legal advice, draft documents or tell you what to sign. For that, talk to an attorney.

Questions people ask

Can family members be in the room?

Yes, though I'll speak with the signer directly. If anyone seems to be pressuring the signer, I won't go ahead.

What if my parent has memory problems?

I can notarize only if the signer understands what they're signing at the time. If you're unsure, ask their doctor or attorney before booking.
